Maurice Richard O’Connell of Egg Harbor Township, NJ died peacefully on October 11, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann, son Michael, son Richard (Suzanne), daughter Theresa, and two grandchildren, Dennis and Megan. Born in Staten Island, New York, in January 1939, Richard was raised in New York City and Yonkers, NY, until he met the love of his life, Mary Ann, and married in May 1960. They resided in Yonkers from 1965 until 1970, and then relocated to Freehold, NJ, where they raised their three children. Richard and Mary Ann have called Egg Harbor Township their home since 1990. In 1966, Richard earned a BA from Manhattan College, and then went on to earn his MBA at Iona College in 1973. Dad will always be remembered as a kind, wonderful, hardworking husband, father, grandpa, and friend, with a great sense of humor. Richard will be sadly missed, but never forgotten by his loving wife, Mary Ann. A celebration of Richard’s life will be shared on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 6pm to 9pm at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing. Dorothy Ruth Gaffney, 85 (nee Merenda) ( Cook) of Mays Landing NJ, formerly of Cherry Hill NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 9, 2014, surrounded by her family. An avid mahjong player, and former court reporter and legal secretary, she was born on July 31, 1929. She is predeceased by her husband Jack Gaffney and her siblings. She is survived by her children: Michael, Christine, Paul, Phillip, Timothy, Jennifer, Jocelyn, their spouses, her 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Douglass A. Dwyer, 65, of Mays Landing passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Sunshine Park, where he was born, raised and mentored his brother Bruce. Doug was a talented musician (drummer), artist and photographer. He loved photography and doing oil paintings of local landscapes. He was able to achieve this under the guidance of his art mentor and close friend Marcos Monteiro. Doug loved being outdoors, enjoying nature and spent countless hours biking, kayaking and taking beautiful photos wherever he went. He attended Mays Landing Schools, graduating from Oakcrest High School in 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country honorably achieving the rank of Specialist. He spent two years in Vietnam, which left him with lifelong difficulties, suffering from PTSD. When he returned home, he went to work for Schiff Charney and Xerox, where he earned awards for excelling in sales. He later entered the casino business, where he worked until 2009. Pre-deceased by his parents Fred Dwyer and Thelma and Bob Chambers. Survived by his brother Bruce (Betty) of Egg Harbor Twp., his significant other Jane Tarewicz and step children Raymond (Kristina), Freedom (Matt), and Mikey, his best buddy who could usually be found right by his side. Also survived by nieces Christa Dwyer-Tracy (Mike), Kellie Dwyer (Brent) and closest friends Joan Kenny and Marcos Montiero. Who were both a constant source of comfort during our most difficult times. Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014, 12 Noon at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm. Alberta S. Thompson departed this life on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, PA. Alberta was a christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was born April 27, 1927 in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Charles and Lina Brown. She was the youngest of two children. Alberta was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. She joined Beulah Baptist Church at an early age, until she moved to Philadelphia, PA. Alberta married the late Wilber M. Thompson and from this union they were blessed with six children. Alberta operated a nursery for children of all ages before relocating to Dorothy, NJ. She was employed at Wheaton Plastic for 25 years, where she retired. Alberta was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Alberta was preceded in death by her daughter Selina Thompson and brother Thomas Brown. Alberta leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Joyce Hicks (LeRoy), Mary Consigliere, Alice Burse (Woodrow), and Alithia Tolbert; one son: Wilber Thompson (Rita); eighteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law Theresa Byers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Charles W. Richards, “Moon” 88, of Mays Landing, passed away on October 20, 2014. Born and raised in Camden, he lived all of his life in South Jersey. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Mater Christi Council in Williamstown. He owned and operated Richards Liquor Store in Williamstown for many years. He was a member of the Church of St. Katharine Drexel in Egg Harbor Township. His favorite pass time was playing golf. Predeceased by his wife Catherine, he is survived by his three children: Cathy and her husband Rich Meier of Oklahoma City, OK, Michael and his wife Karen of Williamstown, NJ, and Bobbi of Collingswood, NJ; and seven grandchildren: Blaise, Kerri, Kacey, Sarah Moon, Nick, Sam, and Cole. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 24th from 9:30-11 AM at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel, 6075 West Jersey Ave., Egg Harbor Township, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM. Thelma D. Ketschek, “Bunchie” (nee: Errickson), 86, of Mays Landing passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2014. Bunchie was a lifelong resident of Mays Landing and worked for Wheaton Aerosols Company for over 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mays Landing. Bunchie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy and was affectionately known to all as “MomMom”. She is predeceased by her mother Emma Errickson, brothers Randolph and David Errickson. MomMom is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Nicholas Ketschek, her son David Ketschek and his wife Carol, her granddaughter Kimberly LaPergola and her husband Scott, her grandson Brian Ketschek and his wife Wendi, her Great-grandchildren Kaylee Murray, Danielle LaPergola, Nicholas LaPergola, Jessica Ketschek and David Ketschek, her “second son” William Houck and his wife Janice, their family and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Gilbert Bosies
Gilbert F. Bosies (“Gil”) – 80 of Devonshire in Mullica Township. Born in Egg Harbor City, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the New Jersey National Guard from 1952 to 1962. Gil worked at Nurre Mirror Plant and the A&P Market before starting a 30 year career with New Jersey Bell and AT&T. After retiring from the phone company, he worked for the Galloway Township Tax Assessors office until 1996. Gil was active in Mullica Township, serving for many years as a member of the Zoning and Planning Boards, and as a member and President of the Mullica Township School Board. Gil is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen (Martin) Bosies and together they raised four daughters: Lyn Vetter (husband Mark) of Galloway NJ, Lee Ann Oberman (husband Ed) of Sewell NJ, Lisa Sullivan (husband Jay) of San Diego CA, and Loren Bosies of Silver Spring MD. He was affectionately called “Grandfather” by his five grandchildren: Jennifer, Sarah and Daniel Oberman; and Jay and Elisabeth Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister Faye Goble of Egg Harbor City, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Gil treasured time spent with family and good times were had over the past 19 years on annual family vacations to Ocean City, NJ. Gil enjoyed musical shows, dining out, reading financials and biographies, and “Traveling With Dave.” The years he spent with his daughters and the Oakcrest Band as a Band Parent Association Member, and more recently, his grandchildren’s sporting events, crafts, and activities were a source of joy. For decades, he continued to meet with Bell Telephone and National Guard friends, and was an active member of the Hiram T. Dewey Masonic Lodge #226 for over 50 years. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, October 25th from 11:00-11:30am, at Hiram T. Dewey Masonic Lodge, 220 Philadelphia Avenue, Egg Harbor City, where Masonic services will be held at 11:45am. Maria Rettino, 98 dies peacefully at Our Lady’s Residence, Pleasantville, NJ, on Friday October, 31 2014. Born November 29, 1915 in Mizpah, N.J., Maria is pre-deceased by her parents, Guiseppe and Lucia Bertucci, her brother and sister in-law, Anthony and Adele Bertucci and her husband of fifty years, Nicholas Rettino, Sr. A loving mother and grandmother, Maria, is Survived by her children, Grace Glenn(Paul) and Nicholas Rettino, Jr. (Rosemary) Grandchildren: Keith Rettino (Lisa), Deborah Glenn (Robert Bradley) Kevin Rettino (Evelyn) Kenneth Glenn (Camila) Nicole Lambert (Joel) and Nicholas P. William Scates
William C. Scates “Bill”, 85 of Mays Landing, NJ passed away at home on November 2, 2014. Born in Newark, New Jersey on August 19, 1929 he is predeceased by his father Frank W., mother Nellie, brothers Robert, Franklin, Albert, Melvin and sister Evelyn Super. Bill was a Staff Sergeant First Class for the US Army during the Korean War, serving on the front lines from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return home he married Alberta Currie. In 1953 Bill was employed by Formigli Brothers Corp. of Berlin, NJ and remained there for the next 28 years. Initially hired as a mold maker Bill rose through the ranks, eventually being promoted to plant supervisor. In 1975 the recession caused Formigli Brothers to close it’s doors, whereupon Bill went to work for AIMS in Vineland, NJ and then moved onto Easter Seals Corporation of Milville, NJ. Upon retirement Bill found great joy building and refinishing furniture, as well as spoiling his black labradors Ebony and Cody. One of his passions was fishing with his best friends Bob Johnson and Dan Kelly to Cape Cod several times a year . Bill was a lifetime member of VFW Post 220 and a member of the Rotary Club of Mays Landing, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alberta T. Scates, daughter Barbara D. Scates, sister Shirley Capoferri and sister-in-law Ruth Scates. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, November 6th from 10am-12noon, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where services will be held at 12noon. Cerrone, Linda Marie (Stebbins) – 56, of Mays Landing went home to be with our Lord on November 9, 2014. Linda passed peacefully at home. Linda was born and raised in South Philadelphia, she moved to Mays landing, NJ and was a longtime resident. She is the beloved daughter of Anthony H. Cerrone. She will be forever missed by her two children, daughter, Jill P. Burbank (Shaun Dalton) and son, Mark C. Stebbins Jr. Her loving companion, Daniel Golden, two sisters, Patricia Cerrone and Joann Patten. God daughters/nieces, Maria Linda Cerrone and Dayton Ann Springer and god son/nephew, Anthony Cerrone. Nieces and nephews, Melanie Ann, Adam and Andrew, Melissa, Tina, Freddie and Rob. Great nieces and nephews, Alexia, Mikey, Freddy, Taylor, Jason, Ariana, Ariel, Josh and Leo. Linda will be greatly missed by family, her amazing girlfriends, friends, and neighbors. Linda is predeceased by Mark C. Stebbins Sr., sisters Barbara Lauria and Kristalee Cerrone Montemurro. Linda loved our Lord and Savior and her children more than anything in this world. Salvatore James Valiante (Sal), 85, left this world to be with the Lord on November 19, 2014 surrounded by his family. Sal was a Harness Horse Trainer and Driver since 1955. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, a member of the Atlantic City Barber Shoppers and was employed by the State of New Jersey at the Atlantic County Transitional School. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Minerva; and six living sons: James (Brenda), Robert (Joyce), Sal Jr. (Laura), Stephen (Diane), Thomas (Denise), and Michael (Mary). He is predeceased by his son David. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and extended family members Michael Frank (Cindy), Danny Gajlkowski, and Dona Twaddle. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 25, at 11 AM, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, where friends may gather from 9:30 until the time of the Mass. Gloria N. Randazzi, 89 of Mays Landing, New Jersey, died November 17th at the assisted living community Absecon Manor in Absecon NJ. Gloria was born March 30, 1925, one of five children in Philadelphia, PA to Rafael and Jennie Cavaliere. She is predeceased by her loving husband John J. Randazzi Sr., grandson John William Randazzi and siblings Mario, Lena, Antoinette and Ralph. She attended South Philadelphia High School and was married following WWII to her childhood sweetheart John J. Randazzi Sr. and were together for sixty-two years. Gloria enjoyed all things artistic, including painting, ceramics, as well as teaching ceramics & china painting and had her own studio. She also loved gardening and dancing & tap danced competitively for many years. With her husband John, they lived many years in Palmyra New Jersey, later retired in Sun City West Arizona, while spending summers with family in Ocean City, NJ. She loved the ocean and decided to return full-time to New Jersey, settling in Mays Landing. She is survived by her sons, John J. Randazzi Jr. & spouse MaryAnn, Louis P. Randazzi & spouse Claire, grandchildren Jacqueline, Stephen & spouse Caroline, Louis Paul Jr., Marisa and great grandchild Izabella Gloria. James (Fred ) Conner – 53 of Mays Landing , NJ, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Heart Disease . Fred was surrounded by his Wife Lillie & his Favorite Cousin Sis McCracken (Michael McCracken ). Fred grew up in Egg Harbor Township, attended Egg Harbor Township School, and graduated from Oakcrest/Absgami High School. His Grandparents Owned & Operated Uncle Dicks Family Market in Bargaintown where he worked as a child. As a Teenager he worked @ Northfield Diner and as an adult he worked at Wheatons Plastic, RSL Doors and the Golden Nugget. He coached for Mays Landing Baseball, Hockey and Football when his sons were young. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. His favorite thing was pool, where he played for many leagues in Mays Landing & Vineland, bringing home many trophies. He loved his two Sons to the Moon & Back. Also, he loved his Dogs Buddy, Molly, Nippy and Brutus. his Dodge Challenger was his favorite toy. He will be remembered as a Devoted Dad & Husband. He was predeceased by his father Warren Eugene Conner, mother Judith (Collins) Rummel, grandfather Richard Collins, grandmother Evelyn Collins. Angelo Robert Pappa, – 86 a resident of Mays Landing for fifty years passed away on Wednesday, November 26th after fighting a brave battle with leukemia. He was born in Swoyersville, PA and is predeceased by his parents, Sicilian immigrants Joseph and Carmela and his three sisters Carmela, Josephine and Rosina. Angelo is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Bernadette three children: Lisa (Vinnie), Joseph (Alma) and Damian (Cynthia), ten grandchildren: Alex (Cathy), Maurio, Dante, Carlo, Elena (Mark), Erik, Sergio, Bianca, Benjamin, and Brooke, three great-grandchildren: Elijah, Adrian, and Alex Jr. and two beloved nephews Philip “Torchy” Zachary and Mark Costello. Angelo served two terms in the United States Marine Corps and lived his life according to their values of honor, courage and commitment and could be seen daily wearing one of his many Marine Corps caps. Angelo received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Wilkes College and a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Scranton. Angelo taught students History at both Bridgeton and Bloomfield high schools before joining the faculty of Oakcrest High School where he was a dedicated member of the Falcon family for thirty-three years (never missing a day). During his tenure at OHS, he served as a teacher, President of the Teachers’ Association, guidance counselor, and Supervisor of the Guidance Department. He was a member of the Hamilton Township Board of Education, serving as its President for two consecutive terms. Throughout his lifetime Angelo was a devout Catholic and enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, cooking, watching old movies and vintage television shows, running, completing crossword puzzles, and listening to music from the Big Band Era. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28th from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM at Boakes Funeral Home 6050 Main Street Mays Landing NJ 08330.
