James L. O’Donnell “Larry”, 91- of Vineland, formerly of Cherry Hill and Mays Landing, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Born September 27, 1921 in Philadelphia to the late Francis F. and Sarah (Rush) O’Donnell, he grew up in the mountains of Summit Hill, PA. He was a WWII veteran, joining the US Marines in 1942. He was based on Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific and served as ground support for an F4-U fighter squadron. . Larry retired in 1985 from Stone and Webster Engineering Co, where he was a mechanical engineer. Larry and his wife, Marie, spent many of their 67 years of marriage traveling. He loved the shore and spending “good times” with his family. He was also very proud to have broken the 20,000 mile mark on his stationary bicycle. One of his favorite pastimes while living at the Veteran’s Home was playing pinochle with his fellow veterans. He is survived by his wife, Marie “Mary” (nee Triolo), his children, Lorraine M. Stackenwalt, Loretta M. Rennie (Raymond) and Lawrence J. O’Donnell (Tracy). Loving grandfather of Gregory Stackenwalt, Geoffrey Stackenwalt (Erin), Sean Stackenwalt (Melissa), Katelin M. Rennie, Colleen M. Rennie and great grandchildren Riley, Eli, Nicholas, Emily, Miles, Mason and Campbell. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on October 23rd from 10am-12noon with services to follow at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ.
