Evelyn M. Helfrich, 90, of Mays Landing, passed away on March 27, 2013. Born and raised in Pleasantville, she was a 1941 graduate of Pleasantville High School. During World War II she served in the American Women’s Volunteer Service. Evelyn and her husband were married in 1945 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Pleasantville. She was a past member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, the Sinawik (Ladies Kiwanis Club), and the Phi Delta Tau Sorority. Evelyn was a chaperone with the Miss America Pageant during the 1960’s and 70’s. She was a member of the Indian Branch Park Colony Club. In her earlier years she enjoyed playing golf, more recently she enjoyed tubing on the Great Egg Harbor River, traveling in her RV, watching the birds in her yard, cooking, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph B. Helfrich, Jr.; children: Jay (Gair) of EHT, David S. of Weymouth, and Roxann Moratelli (Jon) of Mays Landing; grandchildren: Joseph B. Helfrich IV (Stacey), Ian (Kirsten), Ann, Kristine (Dan) Kelly, Sarah Whittaker, Erin (Kevin) Husta, Jonathan Moratelli, and Matthew Moratelli; seven great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Saturday, from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where services will be held at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Pleasantville.
