Patricia Mae Poretto, 74, of Mays Landing, NJ, passed away on January 13, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, she lived in New Jersey. Her parents were Louis and Catherine Sorrentino. Pat had two brothers, Louis of Florida and Dave (predeceased). When she was yet a young lady, she met the love of her life, Samuel J. Poretto, Sr., whom she was married to for 45 years before his passing. They had a marriage that was a true example of what one should be like. They had four children: Patricia (Brian) Casto, Sr., Samuel (Cindy) Poretto, Jr., Karen Poretto, and Anthony (Beverly) Poretto. They in turn blessed them with six grandchildren: Brian Casto Jr. (Crystal), Kelly Morris (Rob), Alex Casto, Samantha Otto (William), Nicolas Poretto, and Lucas Poretto. They in turn doubly blessed them with six great-grandchildren: Giovanni Casto, Sarah Casto, Gabriella Otto, Caleb Casto, Michael Otto, and Chaston Otto. She was a graduate of Vineland High School. She was employed by Lenox China, Wheaton Plastic, and the Greater Egg Harbor School District, while being a loving and dedicated mother and wife. Pat had many interests in her life; you could see her pick up a baseball bat and glove or a football and jump right in the middle of the game. She loved to cook – her meatballs were one of the best. One of the things that she held near was that love of animals who needed that little extra help. There were many things that she had done for so many of them. One of the stories that seems to be remembered by most was a baby squirrel who was left all alone. She cared for the squirrel until it was old enough to be on its own; that squirrel never left her yard or wandered far from her side. Pat had many relatives and friends; and if you would ask any of them, they would each tell you that she was a very special and genuine person. You knew that she really loved you because of the way she treated you. If you needed a hug, or a smile, or a phone call, or a shoulder to cry on, whatever it was, you could be sure that she was there. Also, she wasn’t afraid to tell you when you were wrong and needed to make amends. Even when her days were few, she used the strength that she had to give that ornery smile and the I LOVE YOU, signing it with her hand. There is a lot more that can be said about Pat, surely she was one in a million. Pat will be missed, but never forgotten. When one of us who knew her reminisces, we will smile or laugh or we will cry; but we will know in our hearts, that we are a much better person for having known her. A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 17, from 10 AM – 12 Noon, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where services will be held at 12 Noon. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband Sam in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor, NJ.
