Valentine Michael Nowak, 81, of Mays Landing, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2014. Born in Yonkers, NY, he was one of three children born to William and Pearl Nowak. After college, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Hornet during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the National Weather Service at NAFEC for over 40 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the South Jersey Astronomy Club, the Model Aviators Club, and the Wounded Warriors Project, as well as several other charities that were important to him. In his leisure time he enjoyed building model airplanes, attending air shows, and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann his parents and siblings. He is survived by daughter June Day and her husband James; two grandchildren: Laura Day and Jennifer Robertson; and five great-grandchildren: Karlie, Julianna, Connor, Christian, Madison, and Chase Michael (due soon). A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 3-4 PM, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where services will be held at 4 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
