Merkel, Veronica Rita (Miceli), born December 3, 1916 to Josephine and Frank Miceli of Ozone Park, New York went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2014.
Veronica was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Edward of 58 years who died in May 2000 and their daughter Carol Ann Connor who died in 1968 and their son-in-law Robert Connor.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Reichert and husband Wayne E. of Hammonton, NJ, and Dorothy Connor of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, and her son Daniel F. Merkel and wife Ruth E. of Wantage, NJ.
She leaves behind five grandchildren: Daniel J. Merkel of Millstone, NJ (wife Lilly), Eric W. Merkel of Wantage, NJ (wife Hope), Carole J. Harnett of Wantage, NJ (husband Anthony), Cheryl S. Soldano of Wantage, NJ (husband Peter), Wayne K. Reichert of Hammonton (wife Christine); nine great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Veronica, a registered nurse, worked for many years at Hackensack Hospital doing Private Duty Nursing. She loved her family and friends. She was the nurse on the block who was always there to help care for her neighbors.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 17, at the Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard & Central Ave., Hasbrouck Heights, NJ from 9-10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Corpus Christi Church. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi, NJ.
