JOHN D. COOK, 88, of Absecon, formerly of Mays Landing, NJ and Fort Plain, NY, died peacefully May 2, 2013 with members of his family at his side. He grew up in Fort Plain, NY and graduated from Fort Plain High School. He was a proud veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy SeaBees with Construction Battalions 59 and 72 in Hawaii, Guam, and Japan. Upon returning to civilian life, John was employed by Beech-Nut Corporation, retiring after 43 years of service as an electrician. He enjoyed hunting, riding snowmobiles along the trails of the Adirondacks, and vacationing with his family. He is survived by Frances, his loving wife of almost 66 years, with whom he enjoyed vacations in southern NJ where they eventually retired, his daughter Linda of Mays Landing and son Jeffery of Newark, DE, his son-in-law Jim and daughter-in-law Sandi, and grandchildren Jason, Matthew, Taylor and Allison. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Egg Harbor. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 8th, from 3-4 p.m., followed by a memorial service, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing.
